Welcome to Pack 678!

Welcome to the website for Cub Scout Pack 678 of South Burlington, VT!

Cub Scouts is the first step in the U.S. Scouting program, which progresses to Scouts BSA and Venturing. All of these programs share one mission:

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent

Our pack is run by volunteers who seek to achieve this mission using the Aims and Methods of Cub Scouting:

Cub Scout Pack 678 serves the community of South Burlington and surrounding towns.
It is chartered by the Rotary Club of South Burlington.
Our scouts hail from Burlington, Colchester, Essex, Hinesburg, Shelburne, Williston, and South Burlington.

Cemetary Clean-up Saturday April 24th 9-12

Posted on Apr 16 2021 - 10:52pm

Community service opportunity - Saturday April 24th from 9AM to noon

NOTE: If the weather looks bad, our RAIN DATE is Saturday May 8th from 9 AM to noon.

The Shelburne Road Cemetery (just south of Olive Garden) is in need of TLC with the following tasks:

Litter Clean Up - In the swale that divides the property there is a fair amount of trash including bottles, boxes and general litter.
Large Branch & Tree Stacking: To make it easier for SB Public Works (and cheaper for the SB Taxpayer), we need volunteers to drag all of the ‘draggable’ large felled branches and smaller trees to the front of the property stacked ‘butt end’ to be put in the wood chipper at a later date.
Brush Clipping - All along the fence line and swale, there is small brush that needs to be clipped to beautify the space and gain access to the fencing that lines the property. The brush is encroaching some of our longest resting SB residents.
Metal Fencing Fix-Up - There are segments of the chain-link fence that need to be reset (after the brush is cleared) to straighten up the place.
Modest Raking - We don’t plan to bag leaves but we want to rake some of the leaves towards the swale and to the back corners of the lot.

They were hoping volunteers could bring the following materials to the clean-up event:

- Clippers & Long Fiskars (loppers) - There is a lot of small but stubborn brush that will need ‘Fiskars’ to straighten the edge of the property.
- Work Gloves and/or protective gloves.
- Litter/trash pickers.
- Litter trash bags.
- Rakes (bow & leaf)

They are NOT planning to have volunteers use any power tools and not planning to have any power tools on site working during the volunteer day.

If you are able to give your Saturday Morning to this volunteer effort to beautify one of our two City cemeteries, please sign up here (please also e-mail Bill Huggett williamhuggett@uwalumni.com or Eric Bishop-Von Weetberg at ebishopv@uvm.edu)

Parking: The Cemetery is right next to the Olive Garden. We are working on securing parking permission for volunteers – information will be shared to all who sign up via the sign up genius above.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Posted on Feb 17 2021 - 10:20pm

We cannot run a successful scouting program without great volunteers! Many of our committee members and leaders will be moving on to Scouts BSA this spring and several more next spring. Please reach out to Carolyn Wyand at PACK678VT@gmail.com if you are interested in joining our committee. Our immediate need is a pack secretary to take notes at our monthly leader meetings and help schedule events. We will also need a fundraising chair this fall. There is a couple hours of online training to be completed.
